Poor 3D performance in AutoCAD

Try any of the following procedures, testing the file afterwards:
  • Verify that the file does not contain any drawing corruption
  • Verify that the system is using the latest Autodesk Certified Graphics Card Driver
    • If the Graphics Card is listed on the site above, but the driver listed is newer, then update the current driver to the one listed on the site.
    • If the Graphics Card is not listed on the site above, then update the driver to the newest version from the developer's website.
  • If the file contains both 2D and 3D objects, try separating them in different files and then inserting them as external references.
    1. Select all 3D objects.
    2. Type WBLOCK and press Enter.
    3. Save the file to any folder.
    4. Delete all 3D objects from the original drawing.
    5. Type XREF and press Enter.
    6. On the top-left corner of the palette, click on the Attach DWG icon.
    7. Navigate to the exported file, select it, and click Open.
  • Use the Wireframe visual style instead of 2D wireframe.

  • Use Adaptive Degradation to maintain a minimum or maximum number frames per second
  • In case the file still expresses poor performance, it is possible to send a performance report for the development to analyze using the PMTOGGLE command
  • Remove any 3D elements/models created in a 3rd party software and cleanup the drawing using Audit, Purge and -Purge commands.
Note: nor the Performance Report tool nor the development team will provide direct feedback about the poor performance.

For AutoCAD 2018 and later

  • Force the 3D display style to one that supports the full scene consolidation feature.
    1. Set the Realistic visual style as current.
    2. Bring up the VISUALSTYLES palette by typing VSM and pressing Enter.
    3. Right-click the Realistic visual style and select the Reset to default option.
