Creating multicolored linetypes

In AutoCAD, you cannot declare two different colors in a linetype definition. However, there is a work-around you can use to create multicolored lines/polylines.
Follow these steps:
  1. On the Format menu, click Multiline Style.
  2. In the Multiline Style dialog box, click New.
  3. Enter a name and click Continue.
  4. Enter a description and make sure that there are only 2 elements present (if not, either create new ones or delete the extra ones).
  5. Assign the following parameters to the 2 elements:
      • Offset has to be equal to 0 for both lines.
      • Define a different color for each element, such as blue and red.
      • Load a different Linetype for each element, such as DASHED for the first element and HIDDEN for second element.
      • Accept and set this multiline as current

You will now be able to draw a multicolored red and blue line or polyline by executing the MLINE command.
Your results may be affected by the linetypes that you have loaded for each element. Also, the LTSCALE variable can play an important role in the display of the line. If you want to have more than 2 colors, you can add new elements with different colors and linetypes.
